A letter to our community:
At Animal Emergency, we are committed to providing exceptional care to our patients and supporting our community during times of need. To ensure that we can continue to deliver emergency veterinary services when they are needed most, we will be implementing temporary changes to our operating hours for the upcoming months. These changes will not take place until after July 9th, as our doctors and staff wanted to ensure we remained 24/7 until after the busy July 4th holiday.
Beginning July 9th, we will be open to the public 8am-midnight each day. This adjustment will allow us to optimize our services and ensure that we can promptly attend to any urgent situations that arise as well as allow us to shift our doctors to the hours where we receive the most demand for emergencies, referrals, surgeries, and ICU admissions. By doing this, we also aim to create shorter wait times for those who need care quickly.
Despite this adjustment, we remain committed to providing the highest level of care for our patients. During the overnight hours, we will continue to have a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and support staff on-site to monitor and care for ICU patients. This ensures that hospitalized patients will receive 24/7 continuous, attentive care through the night.
The decision to alter our operating hours and limit overnight patient admissions was not made lightly. Our doctors have done everything in their power to try to remain 24/7, unfortunately working at an unsustainable pace. Despite their tireless efforts, we can no longer maintain 24/7 patient admissions until we hire additional veterinarians to provide overnight care.
This decision also reflects the broader, ongoing challenges within the veterinary profession, particularly the current crisis of a shortage of veterinarians. Nationwide, veterinary practices are struggling to maintain adequate staffing levels, which has had a profound impact on emergency and specialty veterinary services. The demand for veterinarians has grossly outpaced supply, leading to increased stress and burnout among veterinary professionals. By adjusting our hours and patient intake, we aim to provide a more sustainable work environment for our team, allowing us to continue delivering exceptional care to our patients and support to our referring veterinarians.
After July 9th, during the hours we are closed to the public, we recommend calling the nearby emergency facilities listed above for urgent after-midnight cases.
We want to thank our doctors and staff for all they have done to support our local community over the past several years and for their ongoing dedication to providing emergency care access when it is needed most. We appreciate your understanding and support as we make this temporary adjustment to better serve our community. Once we are able to resume 24/7 status, we will post an update. After July 9th, we will update our website and google pages to properly reflect these temporary changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
